How to recycle

Ø Gives a second life to a material and reduces the need to use virgin material.
Ø Usually reduces carbon emissions and saves on energy.
Ø Recycling is for paper, cardboard, glass, plastics and aluminium.
Ø Involves separating waste and processing.
Ø Not all materials can be endlessly recycled and end up in landfill.
Ø What you can and can’t recycle differs depending on the area and your local waste provider.
Ø Viable solution for end-of-life product solutions as there are many recycling facilities available in the UK.

The process of converting used material into a new product. However, there are limits to how many times a material can be recycled. Most plastics can only be recycled 2-3 times and paper between 5-7 times before the material can no longer be used. Glass, metal and aluminium can be recycled endlessly.

Coffee cups are not normally accepted in household recycling collection schemes but can be returned for recycling at specialist cup recycling centres. Specialist pulping plants separate the fibres from the plastic lining, ready for recycling.
